Dear Families and Community Members of Cameron,
We would like to reintroduce and welcome Mrs. Edna Mercado as Cameron’s new principal!
A message from Mrs. Mercado:
It is with great enthusiasm and a deep sense of homecoming that I introduce myself as
your new Principal. Having served the Cameron community for 17 years of my career, I
am overjoyed to return to the place that feels like home and to lead this school into its
next chapter.
For the past four years, I have had the privilege of serving at the network and school
levels, most recently as Assistant Principal at Lewis Elementary. Throughout my
journey, from my earlier years serving the Cameron community, to Lewis, and my time
as an Early Literacy Instructional Lead for Network 3, my focus has remained the same:
strengthening instruction and cultivating a strong social-emotional foundation where
both students and staff feel seen, valued, and supported. Through these experiences, I
have deepened my commitment to strong instruction and to building a school
community rooted in belonging, high expectations, and support for all, and I am eager to
bring these skills back to Cameron.
My passion for education is personal. As a first-generation Latina, I know firsthand how
vital language, culture, and a quality education are to a child’s success. I am a product
of teachers who believed in me and pushed me to dream bigger. It was their influence
that inspired me to dedicate my career to education and to serving Black and Brown
communities. Often, our communities are underserved, and I am driven by the desire to
serve as an example of what is possible for our students.
As your principal, I am committed to working in partnership with you. Our children thrive
when the school and the community work hand-in-hand. I look forward to meeting you,
listening to your ideas, and collaborating as we focus on pushing Cameron to its next
successful chapter. I am honored to serve this community and excited for all we will accomplish together for our students.
